Most famous for taking the British throne during the Glorious Revolution and ending the catholic Stuart reign, the Dutch-born William is also remember in wider politics as the nemesis of France’s greatest monarch, Louis XIV.

Yesterday marked the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Ulster Covenant. Hundreds of thousands of Ulstermen and women put their names to the document, which opposed Irish Home Rule. The Telegraph has reproduced some of the images from 1912.
